This is one I&#8217;ve been wanting to do for about 20 years! The theme is so rich with built-in imagery, colors, mythology, monsters, etc; it was insanely fun to explore. Here are some of the projects and costumes that went into our ancient Egypt Halloween party&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I started off by sending out our annual animated invitation; I make these every year, and my friend Robbie Davis always supplies music, and in this case, lots of cool sound effects. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manningkrull.com\/halloween-2017\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tomb-og.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt Halloween party video invitation\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, some of the decorations we made&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/diy-mummy-props\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/mummy-02.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - DIY mummies\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course we had mummies! We used a couple old skeleton props and turned them into these <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/diy-mummy-props\/\">DIY mummy props<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/egyptian-hieroglyphics-wall-decorations\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/hieroglyph-stencil-wall-covering-07.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - hieroglyph walls\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One project that was really important in transforming our apartment into an Egyptian tomb was creating these <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/egyptian-hieroglyphics-wall-decorations\/\">hieroglyphic wall decorations<\/a>, using stencils and lots of sheets of craft foam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/foam-board-egyptian-sarcophagus-halloween\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/sarcophagus-08.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - home made sarcophagus\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was my favorite project for the whole ancient Egypt party: a 6-foot <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/foam-board-egyptian-sarcophagus-halloween\/\">foam board and paper mach\u00e9 Egyptian sarcophagus<\/a>; the perfect selfie booth!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/spiked-ceiling-ancient-egypt-halloween-party\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/spiked-ceiling-02.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - spiked ceiling\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our whole front hallway was turned into a booby-trapped tomb entrance. We hung this <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/spiked-ceiling-ancient-egypt-halloween-party\/\">spiked ceiling<\/a> to give people a sense of being squished on their way in!<\/p>\n<p>I made the cracked ankh for the door out of foam board with a layer of craft foam shapes all cut out and glued together and spray painted gold. The bricks in the hallway were just sheets of tan craft foam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-pickaxe-shovel-decorations\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pickaxe-and-shovel-decorations.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - pickaxe and shovel\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also made these <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-pickaxe-shovel-decorations\/\">paper mach\u00e9 pickaxe and shovel props<\/a> as decorations for the tomb entrance, and we displayed them with a few lanterns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-scarab-beetle-decorations\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/paper-mache-scarab-08.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - scarab beetle props\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We made half a dozen of these <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-scarab-beetle-decorations\/\">paper mach\u00e9 scarab beetle props<\/a> and displayed them out throughout the apartment, and outside on our terrace.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-ancient-egyptian-canopic-jars\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/canopic-jars-02.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - canopic jars\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <div class=\"ad-300x250 ad-float-right\">\r\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- MMS 300x250 -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:inline-block;width:300px;height:250px\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5009313124668288\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3616150394\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>These <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-ancient-egyptian-canopic-jars\/\">paper mach\u00e9 canopic jars<\/a> were part of a mummification scene in the bathtub that we didn&#8217;t have time to completely finish, but they looked cool on their own!<\/p>\n<p>Other decoration projects included: several dozen little plastic scorpions taped to the stairwell walls, leading people to our front door; lots of old green liquor bottles with tiny battery-powered lights suspended in them to make really neat lanterns, lots of plastic snakes and bugs and bats, flickering orange and yellow lighting everywhere (set up using our Hue lights), a couple of those battery-powered torches with fabric flames, and lots of other stuff I&#8217;m forgetting right now! <\/p>\n<p>Now, some info about our costumes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-anubis-mask\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/anubis-mask-06.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient Egypt party - Anubis mask\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I made this big ol&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/paper-mache-anubis-mask\/\">paper mach\u00e9 Anubis mask<\/a> with red lights in the eyes and a door in the neck that I could open in order to talk\/drink. <\/p>\n<p>For my fianc\u00e9e, I made this <a href=\"https:\/\/manningkrull.com\/manningmakesstuff\/cleopatra-headdress\/\">Cleopatra headdress and collar<\/a> as well as a pair of gold bracers and a belt, all from foam board and paper mach\u00e9!
